What Is EV Charger Power Readiness?

Learn why an assessment of the existing electrical setup is an important part of charger planning.

EV charger power readiness is the process of checking whether the existing electrical supply and installation plan can support the intended charger safely and appropriately.

An assessment may consider the available electrical capacity, panel condition, circuit requirements, cable route, protection devices, and the other equipment that already uses power at the property.

Power readiness is site-specific. A qualified assessment helps determine what is practical for the chosen charger and location rather than assuming that every parking space has the same requirements.

What to look at

  • The planned charger model or charging requirement
  • The location of the electrical panel and parking space
  • Existing high-use electrical equipment
  • Potential cable route and protection from damage
Planning note: Exact equipment, placement, compatibility, wiring, and site requirements depend on the property and the chosen system. An on-site assessment can confirm the appropriate setup.
